A free music lesson every Saturday night!

OMG. I can't tell you how much I LOVE Randy Bachman's Vinyl Tap. It's on CBC Radio every Saturday night from 7-9 PM for most time zones in North America.

Rather than just giving history of music Randy (of The Guess Who and later Bachman Turner Overdrive) explains the music itself -- the technique and instruments behind favorite songs.

In the last half hour he opened his lesson on Rickenbacker guitars and what a lesson! He explained the opening and closing chords of "A Hard Day's Night" and how the opening changed the world, making George Harrison a bigger guitar hero than I had realized. Then onto The Byrds.

We are SOOOOO lucky in Canada.

All of you around the world, have a chance to listen to tonight's show next Friday night between 11PM and 1AM "local Canadian time".

Your best bet is to wait till 11PM Eastern Time and click http://www.cbc.ca/listen.
Then click the  Toronto link and choose your connection speed.
The Rickenbacker lesson and the Hard Day's Night explanation comes an hour and 15 minutes in. But before that, there's a lesson about the middle guitar solo in "All My Loving" and great lessons about lots of other music.

First broadcast is Saturdays 7-9PM local Canadian time in the Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific zones. Repeat broadcast is Fridays 11PM-1AM local Canadian time.

Next Saturday CBC starts into a 3 week repeat of episodes about songs that got stuck at #2. It's surprising how many classics got stuck at #2 because some lesser-known song (or cheesy song) was sitting at #1 blocking it. Well worth the listen!

Love, love, LOVE Randy Bachman!
