So tomorrow's the big election. In 30 or so hours we'll know who your leader is for the next four years.

Being one of your closest neighbors, we're always watching you. How can we help it. American TV networks have been piped into our TV sets since TV began.

So if you all elect Mr Obama, our local magazine, Spacing, is having a party and encouraging other nation's cities to do the same. It's called the "Welcome Back America Party" and is being held in our major city squares. It's really no secret that if we Canucks were allowed to vote in your election, the choice would be overwhelmingly democrat. (Which leads to the question of why we just elected another Conservative government.)

Now, if the other guy wins, then I imagine someone will resurrect the website marryanamerican.ca, which was originally set up in 2004 to help disgruntled American Democrats find shelter in the arms of single Canadians.

Yeh, it's all done in fun. But then you knew that about us.

Happy voting tomorrow!

No you don't and I'm sorry in advance if I end up jinxing things, though I'm trying to get over that whole "the world rises or falls based on things I do" ego of mine.

Oh- I'll take a Canadian regardless of who wins. ;p lol...

I can't believe it's already election day tomorrow. It's gonna be intense to say the least.

Side-note 1: http://www.slapupsidethehead.com/archives/ is a site you've maybe heard of? It's a Canadian blogger all about gay rights and such, and it seems like some insightful stuff to me. I feel like I've learned quite a bit about your politics, at least regarding said issue... I could be wrong- I dunno. But it seems like there's some morons in power that just don't fit with most Canadians. Sort of like Bush actually... =/

Side-note 2: You should check out my latest post. Let's just say I found an image that looks almost just like Nicky (although a little more muscled, and younger...). And I imagine you'd be quite interested to say the least. *g*

Have a great day! And thanks for the post. I get to sit back and watch since I've already voted. Definitely gonna be intense...

Yeh. Our current group really appeal to the Western Canadians who are very conservative fiscally and socially. For example, in Alberta, it's really hard to be a vegetarian -- as in it's a crime not to eat beef. And our leader is a control freak -- very guarded in what he puts forward to the public. Our Canadian comedy shows which are very political rarely get to joke around with him like they do with the other leaders.

I'm amazed that you're not more bitter about us monopolizing the TV time. I'm just SO happy that another Clinton isn't on the bill!!

Oh you underestimate how interested the rest of the world is in this election because Bush has been so widely hated and this is such a huge chance for positive change.

Some people with dual citizenship (because they've been here for years) have exercised their American citizenship and made the effort to vote. Several Canadians are driving across the border just to be in the US should the Democrats get in. Others are volunteering on phones.

I think I heard if Germany could vote in the US they'd go 95% Obama. Britain wants Obama, Kenya is setting up a big celebration because that's where Obama's dad was born.

Don't worry about us being angry tonight. We're watching!

Believe me, I KNOW the rest of the world is watching us as the outcome will affect them. But I'd say most of the world is happy to go to bed not knowing and will awake to the news good or bad.

I wasn't aware of the Canucks/Yanks going over the line. Tres interesante!

A very non-P.C. question about Canada

Do you mind if I ask....

In the states, we often refer to people of color as "African-American", what is the custom in Canada?
"African-Canadian"? Something totally different? I wonder what the custom is in France or Germany?

I don't often hear newer Canadians referred to as _______-Canadian. They often just identify themselves by where they came from and they're specific about it. So rather than African-Canadian, they're referred to as Ethiopian, South African, etc. I believe Canada lets new Canadians keep their birth citizenship and the communities are very strong so it takes a while before they are referred to as "Canadian".

And yes, it's a bone of contention. It feels like we don't have the same loyalty to our country that the US gets from new arrivals.

This came in as "anonymous". Just curious who's asking.
