This neighbor from the north is thrilled with the outcome of your election. I'm mostly thrilled your country went Democrat and moved away from the fear-mongering party who made Canadians feel distrusted right from its swearing in in 2001.

I'm also thrilled that Mrs Palin was prevented from becoming VP. I didn't consider her a step forward for women or anyone else, once her religious beliefs and lack of knowledge about foreign relations became known. While I realize Mr McCain is a lot more moderate, he is over 70 years old. The likelihood was just too great he might not complete the 4 years and she would become president.

I'm thrilled that your new president is of my generation and not my parents' generation.

And it goes without saying the happiness I have for the millions of non-white Americans who now can openly dream of becoming president too.

But most of all, I'm thrilled at the voter turn out and the stories of long waits to vote that people just waited through. More people across your country felt it important to make their votes count than ever before, something we Canadians failed at just three weeks ago. The involvement inspired by this campaign is something all countries need to strive for.

It's the way election days should go.

Let's hope President-Elect Obama and VP-elect Biden live up to the majority of hopes people around the world have for them.

*SQUISHES*!!!!!!!! :D

I really hope we chose wisely. But looking at Palin, I have to say that no matter what happens in the next four years we made the right choice.

And I'm just... it's incredible to see the turnout of voters, and to see the landslide that it was. It is/was so exciting! :D

Many many Canadians, and people around the world, are now envious and want a similarly inspiring leader for their own. And a spark has gone into the hearts of non-white people around the world that they too can dream of reaching the top in their own homes.

I heard one such letter written by a Canadian Aboriginal grandmother tonight. Haitian Canadians were dancing in Montreal. It is a really really huge event for more than just America.

*Squishes right back.*

It certainly was quite a historic day and one I was happy to witness in my lifetime. I pray he is the man he appears to be. I am also thankful I wont have to find a canadian family to adopt mine! lol. Canada may have become quite overcrowded if Mcain had won!

Oh, we have lots of space. Geographically we're the first or second largest in the world. It's just we need all the new people to move to Saskatchewan or the Northwest Territories. Hee hee.

Thank you for giving us the opinion of a foreigner. Too many Americans don't understand how much the rest of the world scrutinizes us-and we give them the (ugh!) Paris Hiltons.

I'm understanding that you're referring to us as "democrat" in the process, not our party associations, correct? I switch parties about every six years, because I can. Also the ideology shifts and I want to support the person who seems to be willing to change the country in a way that I support.

Yes, hopefully, the U.S. will abandon it's greed internationally and concentrate on doing the right thing, not putting more money into the pockets of those that will only try to make more money.

I found it tricky as to what to say because I know a few people on my f-list are not happy with the outcome. Certainly they wouldn't want to be congratulated, and I understand that.

I am happy that so many people got out to vote, making the democratic process work as best as possible.

So I congratulate both and anyone who's happy with some part of how Tuesday went.

Does that make it clear as mud?

In the very earliest of my voting years, I did lean more to the Progressive Conservative party and actually volunteered for them in one election. I voted New Democrat provincally once. Since then, I've gone pretty consistently Liberal. So I've switched around too and will again if one of our parties gets a truly inspirational leader at the helm.
